The hearing for LB360 to establish the surgical technogist registry in Nebraska was held yesterday March 16th.  Proponents for the bill included The Nebraska State Assembly, AST, Dr. Olberding, Dr. Tennity and the Nebraska Medical Association.  The Nebraska Hospital Association came in Neutral.  Opponents included AORN, the Nebraska Nurses Association and the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association.  Opposition was related to whether the registry should be administered by the Board of Medicine in Surgery or the Board of Nursing as well as a belief that regulation is not necessary since no adverse events have directly occurred due to untrained sugical technologists.

The Health and Human Service committee will vote to decide whether to advance the bill out of committee based on the testimony heard.  We will keep you updated as we know more about the future of the legislative effort.

Thank you for your continued support of the legislative ifforts of the the Nebraska State Assembly!!!!!
